2001 GRAFTON MODEL SHOW

Grafton Truck Driver's Social Club Inc. in association with
Scale Automobilia presented the 2001 Grafton Model Show

The show was held Saturday 9th June 2001 from 9am to 4.30pm, at the Grafton Showground Pavillion, Grafton Showground, Prince St Grafton.

Held in conjunction with the Grafton Truck Drivers Social Club's "Weekend of Trucking", the Grafton Model Show draws entrants from as far as Sydney and Brisbane each year. This year 38 modellers entered 362 models 'm both judged and display categories which for a one day show is a fantastic response.

With ages ranging from 8yrs to over 60yrs a wide cross-section of modelling interests were on show with cars providing the largest entry list, although trucks, aircraft, military vehicles and bikes were all represented. Of particular note were the truck and speedway models of Rhys Crosskill, 70’s era Revell trikes of Bob Lovell and Brisbane's Chris Dansie's hot rod models.

The Grafton Model Show has always had a good response from younger modellers and this year was no exception, with Junior (under 13yrs) Class winner Ryan Knox and Intermediate (13-16yrs) class winner Rhys Holroyd both showing that there are young modellers prepared to put in the effort into modelling with both Ryan's Bismark and Rhys' Kenworth SAR being particularly well done.

Local modeller Daryl Donohoe showed up with the latest trend in 1: 1 car colours, PPG's Chameleon paint on 4 models, with colours changing from purple to blue to red and gold depending on the viewing angle.

Grafton Model Show is fortunate to have the support of a number of leading companies in the Australian Modelling industry, particularly Toy and Hobby Australia, JB Wholesalers, Pageley P/L, Cavalier, Auslowe and Jaymar Models, all of whom provided models as prizes. Further support was particularly welcome in the form of magazine subscriptions from Scale Auto Enthusiast, Australian Street Rodding and ModelArt Australia, with Truckin' Life providing magazine give-aways. Scale Automobilia and Wargames Warehouse both had stands at the show and donated a number of kits as prizes.

The Grafton Truck Clubs choice for Best Model this year went to Rhys Crosskill for his Scania Cab-over and Reefer Trailer.
